08-05-2008 Desmond Dekker

So, I have been working on a project: A Minute Pause is covertly ripping (Digitizing_) The WRCT library. Part of what I do is against what most DJs believe in - spaces between music, but, my "pauses" serve a purpose. (Oh, God this isn't one of those artist justification/explanation things, way after the fact! Oh, Shit, maybe it is.) I like to think I'm more of a DJ because of sheer volume (no, not loudness) of music collected, and I have a style of waiting a little longer between songs and, pausing, putting a little more space between things before continuing. It reminds me of a classical or jazz DJ on the radio, they don't talk over the music and there is just space in the background when they talk. Anyways, the secondary function of spaces is, when I record my CDs in the studio, I can later go back and digitize more music that's on vinyl or out of print (Honestly it's for my own purposes - I love music). That's my secret to the show and also the reason I haven't changed the name and the format at all - I am slowly ripping vinyl sweetened through the board in the radio studio to listen to or give to friends, OH WAIT, I mean back up my library, legally, no, seriously.
So, that now leads me to Desmond Dekker, a gem of the library on vinyl, this was a nice suprise find in the Reggae section - Officially Live and Rare - I originally played because someone requested the Harder They Come Soundtrack, which I couldn't find at the time (Jeff Ferrgison). Come to find out, the live concert on this album even though recorded many years after the early hits, and in England, has such charm and really showcases what a amazing singer and performer Desmond Dekker was. The unreleased studio tracks, which were recorded years before the concert, are excellent in their own right. The CD I burned of this LP also has Burning Spear Live - Black Soul on it as well. Sidenote: The Meditations "Standing On The Corner," I also ripped but wouldn't fit on the CD (A good reason to play/record/rip more killer Reggae vinyl which = the next CD).
